The 74HC595 Shift Register IC is an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out (SIPO) shift register designed to expand the digital output capabilities of microcontrollers. It converts serial data into parallel outputs using only a few control pins, making it ideal for driving LEDs, seven-segment displays, LCDs, relays, and other digital devices. Multiple 74HC595 ICs can be cascaded to control a large number of outputs while minimizing GPIO usage.
